Natural Skin Care

Your skin protects you every day. Say thank you to your skin by nourishing it with holistic, chemical-free skin care (that's good for the environment, too!)
Let's start with cleansing.  Skip your run of the mill soap and water, and try something different like an essential oil. Bergamot has a clean fresh scent that serves as a great refresher.  Try mixing a couple drops of bergamot essential oil with a tablespoon of baking soda, a squeeze of some fresh lemon juice and a teaspoon of water until you end up with a paste-like substance.  Simply smear onto your face and cleanse as usual.  You'll notice your pores feeling a lot fresher afterwards!
Next, let's move onto exfoliating.  Did you know that your skin loses 30,000 to 40,000 dead skin cells from the surface almost every minute? Well, dermatologists recommend exfoliating the skin once a week to progress the growth of new skin cells.  Try using plain old sugar by mixing a tablespoon with a teaspoon of honey, add essential oils if you would like a scent, and proceed with your normal exfoliation process.  This will leave your skin feeling baby soft!  Another alternative  is oatmeal -  Take a handful of uncooked oatmeal, add some warm water and scrub away!
Lastly, we can't stress enough, moisturizing every day. Many of today's moisturizers contains chemicals such as parabens which have been found to cause cancer. Check the labels of your lotions, shampoo and conditioner and look out for Polyparaben and Methylparaben in particular. Skip these in favor of nutritive oils, such as almond, jojoba, and grapeseed oil.  These oils are excellent for the skin and are loaded with nourishing antioxidants that will definately help you achieve that healthy glow.  Also, try using solified fats usually found in a stick formula like cocoa butter, shea butter or palm nut butter.  You can just rub these onto the skin directly and they hydrate wonderfully.
As always, eating healthy and adding adequate hydration into your diet is a necessity to acquire healthy skin. Drink plenty of water and work out regularly - sweating will help to cleanse the pores from the inside out.
Please, use these methods with care and caution - be sure to be aware of any allergies or skin sensitivities and have fun!
