Because the heat and humidity just won’t stop out there, we’re bringing you more tips for cooling off this summer. In addition to the basics - like drinking cool liquids often, wearing light-weight breathable clothes, and staying out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day - you can try more advanced cooling techniques, like using aromatherapy to promote cool relief.
There are two main ways you can use aromatherapy to keep cool. The first technique can even be included in your massage session at Massage Williamsburg at your request! Essential Oils must be diluted in order to be safely used on the body, and massage oil are a perfect medium. Combining a few drops of cooling oils like peppermint, tea tree, or eucalyptus with a carrier oil like grapeseed or sweet almond oil provides an aromatic, cooling massage experience that will stick with you when your session is over. You can also try this at home: put 5 drops of peppermint essential oil in a few ounces of carrier oil and use to massage your feet for a wonderfully refreshing treat at the end of your day!
You can also use these same oils throughout the day for a quick cool-down by putting a few drops of a cooling essential oil in a spray bottle of water. Keep it in the fridge, and spritz your face (close your eyes first!) and chest whenever you need to cool off. Try combining peppermint with a calming essential oil like lavender or geranium - put five drops total in a small spray bottle of water and carry with you to use whenever the sticky city heat is getting the best of you.
